WHAT IS A “SLAM?”
A poetry slam is a competitive event in which poets perform their work and are judged by members of the audience. Typically, the host or another organizer selects the judges, who are instructed to give numerical scores (1 to 10 scale) based on the poets' content and performance. PODSLAM.ORG HISTORY
Launched in February 2006 after a conversation about mobile media, the slam scene and the role of “poet as activist” in society, and the success of provocative spoken-word venues such as “Café Nuba” in “non-urban” markets, Podslam.org, holds the distinction of being the “original e-slam” immediately addressing the theme of “Black history and identity in the US” with 15 poets from the local community. Podslam.org is also a joint venture between Just Media, the Pan African Arts Society, and BluBlak Media, LLC in Denver, Colorado – USA that has been in the forefront of the “cyberslam” phenomenon and continues to produce high definition films for poets as an opportunity for artists to communicate, exchange, and engage. Indeed, the “revolution is being televised” via pod technology with Podslam.org as cutting edge project to watch.
